Nurture Group Strengthens Northern Network with NESL Acquisition
31 July 2023

Nurture Landscapes Group has bolstered its presence in the North with the acquisition of Northern Estates Services Ltd (NESL) in Lancashire.
This strategic move, marking the company's ninth acquisition in the past twelve months, is a crucial step in consolidating its footprint in the region and enhancing its service offerings.
Founded in 2007 by the husband-and-wife team of Mark and Kathy Ridehalgh, NESL has grown into one of the leading landscape and arboriculture maintenance businesses in the North of England. With a Head Office in Blacko, Lancashire, and an operational unit in Bradford, Yorkshire, NESL employs 120 people.
NESL brings to Nurture Group a set of core services that align seamlessly with the company's own verticals, reinforcing its ability to provide comprehensive green services.
NESL bolsters Nurture Group’s grounds maintenance service in the North, representing a significant portion of NESL's revenue, this service complements Nurture Group's commitment to maintaining high-quality outdoor spaces. The addition of NESL's expertise enhances Nurture's capability to deliver top-notch grounds maintenance services, further solidifying its reputation in the industry.
As winter maintenance and gritting becomes a critical aspect of our holistic service offering, NESL's proficiency in this area brings added value to Nurture Group. The acquisition fortifies Nurture's ability to provide year-round solutions, ensuring that outdoor spaces remain functional and aesthetically pleasing even in adverse weather conditions.
With a focus on arboriculture services such as tree care and maintenance, NESL's arboriculture services dovetail perfectly with Nurture Group's commitment to environmental sustainability. The integration of NESL's expertise strengthens Nurture's capabilities in preserving and enhancing green spaces.
NESL's specialisation in civil works, particularly hard landscaping land ad hoc projects, aligns with Nurture's holistic approach to green services. This addition broadens Nurture's scope, allowing us to offer clients a more comprehensive suite of services for their outdoor spaces.
Both Nurture Group and NESL share a commitment to environmental sustainability. NESL's practices, such as zero waste operations, heating from its own biomass unit, and water regeneration for various processes, align with Nurture's robust emphasis on protecting the environment. This shared vision not only enhances the overall ethos of Nurture Group but also resonates with clients who prioritise sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.
The founders of NESL, Mark and Kathy Ridehalgh, will play a crucial role in supporting Nurture's two Northern directors, Andy Williams and Will Pettit, with the integration process. This collaborative effort aims to consolidate the Nurture brand in the North and facilitate a seamless transition for clients.
