What are the most common insect pests in the UK?

Common species of pest insects include flies, cockroaches, ants, bed bugs, beetles, and moths. Flies cause a significant health risk by contaminating food and are vectors of numerous diseases, carrying bacteria and pathogens from decaying matter to food and kitchen surfaces.  The house fly, Musca domestica,  has no chewing mouthparts (its mouth is spongelike) and feeds by vomiting on its food before stamping the digestive juices into the surface and then sucking them back up.  It will often then defecate before flying away.  It is recognised as being a cause of food poisoning, but the smaller Fruit fly, Drosophila species, will also carry significant populations of bacteria.

Cockroches are also notorious for spreading diseases. They carry bacteria and pathogens that can contaminate food, posing serious health risks. They thrive in unsanitary conditions and can quickly infest kitchens, restaurants, and other food-handling establishments.  The German Cockroach, Blattella germanica, will also infest households.

How do your insect control services work?

Our approach is based on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) – a sustainable framework that emphasises inspection, species identification, targeted treatment, and prevention. We start with a detailed survey of your property, determine the source and extent of the infestation, and develop a custom plan that may include:

  • Non-toxic sprays and targeted insect baits
  • Insecticidal dusts and gels
  • Heat treatments
  • Insect traps and detectors
  • Physical barriers like fly screens and electric fly killers

For hard-to-detect infestations such as bed bugs, we also use specialist detection teams, including sniffer dogs.

Do you offer insect control for both homes and businesses?

Absolutely. Our insect pest control services are tailored for both domestic and commercial clients across the UK. Whether you’re a homeowner dealing with flies and ants, or a business needing full hygiene-compliant pest control, we deliver solutions designed for your specific needs and regulatory requirements.

What are the early signs of an insect infestation?

Early warning signs vary depending on the insect species, but commonly include:

  • Repeated sightings of the same insect
  • Droppings, shed skins or eggs
  • Unusual smells or staining
  • Bites or skin irritation
  • Damage to fabrics, food packaging or surfaces

Spotting these signs early makes insect control simpler and reduces the risk of the problem spreading.

Can insect infestations spread if left untreated?

Yes. Many insects reproduce quickly and can spread through walls, voids, shared spaces and neighbouring properties. Some species, such as cockroaches, bed bugs and ants, are particularly difficult to control once established.

Early insect removal and control reduces disruption, treatment time and overall cost.

How quickly can insect infestations be resolved?

This depends on the insect type and severity of the infestation. Some issues improve quickly after initial treatment, while others require staged visits and monitoring.

Your technician will explain what to expect and how long the insect control process is likely to take.

Can insect infestations be prevented long term?

While no environment can be completely insect-free, long-term prevention is achievable with the right approach. Targeted treatments, practical advice and regular monitoring significantly reduce the likelihood of repeat infestations.
