Mouse pest control

Despite their small size, mice can cause considerable damage, and health and safety concerns to homes and businesses. They spread harmful diseases through their urine, droppings and saliva, and transfer food poisoning bacteria on their feet and fur. What are the key signs of mouse activity?

Look out for mouse droppings. Fresh house mouse droppings are shiny and soft, hardening and losing their sheen after a couple of days. They are small (3-6mm) and pointed, and the mice produce around 80 per day, so there is a high likelihood of you finding some. Field mouse droppings are similar in size, but blunt ended.

Mice are excellent climbers and mark their territories with a urine trail. They feed on a huge variety of foods and will eat approx. 3g (1/5 of their body weight) of food a day. When nesting they will make use of paper, plastic, insulation and other materials to keep them and their young warm.

Greasy marks on surfaces are another indicator, often seen in larger infestations. Other signs include holes, squeaking and gnawing sounds at night, a distinctive smell, footprints and bite marks on wood, cables, or even metal, as rodents constantly gnaw to keep their ever-growing teeth sharp.

How quickly can a mouse infestation grow?

Mice reproduce rapidly, meaning a small infestation can quickly escalate into a major problem. A single female mouse can have 5 to 10 litters per year, each litter typically consists of 6 to 8 pups. Mice reach sexual maturity at around 4 to 6 weeks old, meaning they can start reproducing very soon and populations can grow exponentially.

What treatment methods do you use to control mice?

Nurture Pest Control is a trusted expert in mouse control, offering thorough site assessments to pinpoint the extent of the problem, identify nesting areas, and take environmental factors into account.

If mouse activity is found, we’ll develop a bespoke integrated pest management plan, which may include:

  • Sealing holes inside and outside your property to prevent entry; an adult mouse can squeeze through a hole of 6mm.
  • Mouse traps strategically placed to control the mouse population.
  • Tamper-resistant bait stations and rodenticides, in some instances. All Nurture Pest |Control technicians abide by the Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use (CRRU) code of best practice.
  • Safe droppings removal and disinfection to make areas hygienically safe.
  • Remote traps, sensors, and trail cameras can also be deployed based on the business’s needs.

Every solution is customised to the scale and specifics of your infestation.

How much does mouse control cost?

There are many distinct factors that will affect the price of mouse control. These are:

  • Size of infestation – the quantity of mice located on site will influence the control programme.
  • Location of the infestation
  • Type of treatment
  • Size of property
  • Non-target risk
  • Number of treatments required.

Do you use live capture traps?

We do not use live capture traps for mice, as keeping them confined without regular access to food is inhumane. Many so-called “humane” traps available on the market are only truly humane if they are monitored frequently, otherwise, the mouse is left trapped without food, potentially leading to starvation. It is also inhumane to release mice into unfamiliar surroundings.

When using traps, we rely on humane mouse ‘break-back’ traps designed for efficiency and compassion. These traps are compact, easy to install, and ensure mice are dispatched quickly and humanely, minimising suffering.

Do you offer mouse proofing and prevention?

Absolutely. Effective mouse pest control doesn’t stop at removal. We provide practical advice and, where required, proofing recommendations to help prevent mice from re-entering your property.

Can you help with recurring mouse problems?

Yes. Recurring infestations often indicate underlying access or environmental issues. Our mouse control specialists identify and address the root causes, helping to deliver long-term results.

How soon should I contact a mouse control service?

As soon as you suspect mouse activity. Early intervention makes mouse removal simpler, more cost-effective and reduces the risk of damage or contamination.
