Pest prevention is better than cure
At Nurture Pest Control, our integrated pest management services focus on keeping pests where they belong – in the external environment where they play a valuable role in ecosystems. By addressing vulnerabilities and strengthening long-term protection, we ensure your home or business remains safe and pest-free.
What are the four principles of an integrated pest management (IPM) program?
1.Prevention and Control – prioritise proactive methods to exclude pests in the first place including physical barriers and non-toxic traps, natural repellents, electronic technology, good hygiene protocols and biological controls.
2.Set action thresholds: determining at what point pest controls are necessary, often based on an economic threat or health risk.
3.Identify and monitor pests – regular monitoring is crucial to accurately identify the pest present and correct identification is key to choosing the most effective control methods.
4.Minimum use of pesticides – Chemical pesticides are used as a last resort when other methods are proven ineffective. When used they are applied in a targeted manner with the safest products and minimum effective dose to reduce risks to humans and the environment.
What are examples of sustainable pest control practices?
Examples of sustainable pest control measures include sealing entry points and creating physical barriers to deny entry to pests, use of humane non-toxic traps, LED UV electronic fly killers, natural predators, pesticide free materials and natural repellents.
Heat treatments can be used to eliminate a variety of common insects such as bed bugs without the use of traditional insecticides.
