Frequently asked questions
What are the key signs of rodent activity?
Look out for rodent droppings. Fresh droppings are shiny and soft, hardening and losing their sheen after a couple of days. Mouse droppings are small (3-6mm) and pointed, while rat droppings are larger (up to 12mm) and semi-pointed. Grey squirrel droppings are around 9mm with rounded ends; they can fade over time.
Greasy marks on surfaces are another indicator, often seen in larger infestations. Other signs include dead rodents, a musty smell from urine, damaged product/packaging, footprints, tunnels, squeaking and gnawing sounds at night, and bite marks on wood, cables, or even metal, as rodents constantly gnaw to keep their ever-growing teeth sharp.
What treatment methods do you use to control rodents?
Nurture Pest Control is a trusted expert in rodent control, offering thorough site assessments to pinpoint the extent of the problem, identify nesting areas, and take environmental factors into account.
If rodent activity is found, we’ll develop a bespoke integrated pest management plan. This may include:
Every solution is customised to the scale and specifics of your infestation.

Do you use live capture traps?
We do not use live capture traps, as keeping a rodent confined without regular access to food is inhumane. Many so-called “humane” traps available on the market are only truly humane if they are monitored frequently, otherwise, the rodent is left trapped without food, potentially leading to starvation.
Instead, we rely on humane rodent traps designed for efficiency and compassion. These traps are compact, easy to install, and ensure rodents are dispatched quickly and humanely, minimising suffering.
The use of live capture traps may be deployed if there is a risk of catching a protected species such as a water vole. Their use is very strictly monitored as to trap any animal in a cage and not check it regularly can lead to unnecessary suffering. Where protected species are not at risk, the technician conducts a risk assessment to determine whether humane rodent traps may be used, thereby reducing the need to use chemicals in the environment.
How long does it take to get rid of rodents?
The time needed depends on the level of activity and site conditions. After an assessment, we will outline the likely timeline and steps needed to resolve the issue and prevent recurrence.
What is rodent proofing and why is it important?
Rodent proofing means identifying and sealing gaps and entry points rodents use to get inside buildings. It is one of the most effective long-term ways to keep them out.
