The scheme delivered a 24% biodiversity net gain and increased city centre footfall by 25%. Highlights include: Planting 198 climate-resilient trees and over 25,000 herbaceous plants Installing 3,100m² of wildflower turf and pollinator-friendly species Integrating innovative SuDS features and passive irrigation systems to manage stormwater naturally Creating engineered tree pits to enable large-canopy trees to thrive in challenging urban conditions This flagship project exemplifies nature-based solutions in urban regeneration, delivering ecological, social, and climate benefits in a live city centre environment. It has set a new benchmark for sustainable, people-first placemaking in the UK.
