Gavin Jones was proud to attend the official opening of The Seam in Barnsley, a landmark development that is already making a strong visual and functional impact on the local environment.

Delivered in partnership with Willmott Dixon, alongside landscape architects ONE Environments and client Barnsley Council, the project brings together high-quality design, public space and innovative lighting to create a distinctive destination within the town.

Our team supported the delivery of the external works at the Lower Seam Car Park, helping to create a space that is both practical and visually striking, day and night.

Delivered through challenging winter conditions

A defining feature of this project was the conditions it was delivered in.

Working through a demanding winter period, the Gavin Jones team maintained programme momentum while continuing to meet high quality standards across the site.

This required careful planning, strong collaboration and a consistent focus on delivery despite challenging weather conditions.

Recognising individual contribution

The success of the project is a direct reflection of the people involved.

Richard Rhodes of Gavin Jones was specifically recognised by the client for his contribution throughout the programme.

Richard Rhodes has shown remarkable hard work and professionalism. His strong work ethic is matched by his collaborative approach, making him a pleasure to work with. Richard’s willingness to engage, support, and contribute ideas has made a significant positive impact, and I’ve personally valued the way he has worked alongside me throughout.

Jacob Spencer-Parkin, Assistant Building Manager, Barnsley Council

This recognition highlights the importance of collaboration, attitude and consistency in delivering successful outcomes.

A collaborative approach to delivery

The Seam is a strong example of what can be achieved through effective partnership working.

Close coordination between all parties ensured the project was delivered to a high standard, with a shared focus on quality, safety and programme.

The result is a well-designed, welcoming public space that enhances the surrounding environment and provides long-term value for the local community.

Creating spaces that perform

Projects like The Seam demonstrate Gavin Jones’ ability to deliver high-quality external environments in complex conditions.

From public realm to infrastructure-led schemes, our teams focus on delivering spaces that are functional, durable and designed to perform over time.
