A garden that gives back: A shared vision for nature-Led wellbeing

As part of its continued commitment to promoting the therapeutic benefits of plants and green spaces, national green-services provider Nurture Group has donated £25,000 to become a corporate partner of Hospice UK. Nurture’s partnership with Hospice UK will launch at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025, which is taking place between Tuesday 20 and Saturday 24 May.

The move aligns with the powerful message behind the charity’s Garden of Compassion and the long-term value of green spaces in end-of-life care. Following its week at RHS Chelsea, the garden will be relocated to St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham, where it will provide patients, families and staff with a permanent place of reflection, connection and comfort.

Nurture Group’s donation supports the project’s wider goals of highlighting the emotional, symbolic, and social value of hospice gardens. Additionally, it helps to ensure the show garden’s relocation after RHS Chelsea becomes a legacy for a community in need.

Catherine Bosworth, Director of Income Generation at Hospice UK, said:

“Hospice gardens are places where people can simply be – where families can gather, where quiet reflection is possible, and where nature offers comfort without words. With the support of our corporate partners, we’re bringing this powerful experience to even more people, reinforcing our mission to promote and protect hospice care for all who need it, for now and forever.

Thoughtfully designed for accessibility and reflection

Hospice UK’s Garden of Compassion has been designed by award-winning garden designer Tom Hoblyn. Inspired by the Olive Houses in Mallorca and shaped in consultation with hospice occupational therapists. The garden includes wheelchair-and hospital-bed-accessible paths, climate-resilient planting, and hand-crafted benches and features built from sustainable materials predominantly sourced in the North East.

Peter Fane, founder and Executive Chairman at Nurture Group, said:

“Gardens have a unique ability to provide solace, dignity and connection, particularly at the most challenging times in life. Through this support, we are proud to help Hospice UK with the fantastic work they do in promoting and protecting hospice care for all in need. We are also delighted that the Garden of Compassion will be relocated and repurposed to provide a sanctuary that will continue to serve patients and their loved ones long after the show is over. This is a powerful example of how the spaces we nurture today can leave a meaningful, lasting impact on communities tomorrow.”

Winning a Silver-Gilt medal at this years RHS Chelsea flower show. The Garden of Compassion is a remarkable tribute to the role green spaces can play in supporting those at the end of life, their families, and the dedicated teams who care for them.
