Dodsworth Ltd was founded in October 1990 by Julie Dodsworth and her husband Simon. Based in Yorkshire, Julie, a coalminer’s daughter, joined the industry at just 16 as an apprentice florist. With a natural flair for creativity, her skills, along with her passion, developed over time through constant practice and observing and learning from her seniors. Always with a keen creative eye, Julie saw the trend in rented tropical plant displays for businesses taking hold in London and started wondering whether this concept could work in the North, predominantly in her hometown of York? An idea was born. Having no business background but a lot of passion and determination, Julie with her best foot forward took the idea to her bank manager hoping to secure funding! Sadly, she was immediately turned down, being told that her vision was sheer fantasy. Disappointed but not deterred, Julie was more determined than ever. With a private loan, an old plastic tunnel rented in a local farmers field and a HQ based at her kitchen table, Dodsworths was born. Within 3 years, Simon, her husband joined the business full time, a premises was secured, and their first apprentice came on board. In 2010, their seven man all apprentice trained team won the Orange National Business Award for ‘Outstanding Team of the Year’ against giants Arriva, Telewest Broadband and Virgin. Julie also won the Orange National Business Personality of the Year. The judges said “Julies and Simons ideas could be adapted by any team to take them the winning extra mile. They have proved that with detail, teamwork, and consistency, David can take on Goliath and win!” Thirty years later Julie and Simon have created a world class seven figure business supplying blue chip companies nationwide, with clients including the new Wembley Stadium, Bettys Group, Aviva, and Liverpool FC to name but a few. Julies and Simons story is very close to Nurtures. Nurture started with only 4 people, one van and a small yard – showing where a good concept, a great team, integrity and a lot of grit, passion and determination can take you. Julie and Simon are delighted that the team moves forward with Nurture, knowing that the passion integrity and ethos that they strived for will continue, and they are proud to be flying the flag for the Nurture brand in North & North East. “I am delighted to welcome the incredibly experienced team from Dodsworths into Nurture family. The addition of their high profile client base will transform the interior setup we already offer across the region, and give the team the exciting opportunity to develop their skill sets and deliver an even more exceptional interior plant maintenance service to the region.” Nick Hills, Nurture Landscapes Divisional Director, North & Scotland Region Dodswoths will sit within Nurtures North division, under the direction of Nick Hills, Divisional Director for the North & Scotland. They will continue to trade under Dodsworth until 31/03/21 and then will rebrand as Nurture from 1st April. This will more than double Nurtures plant display operations in the North.
