The Nurture Landscapes Group supports the development of new industry talent by becoming a BALI Chalk Fund Gold champion! The Fund established in 1975 with a legacy from the widow of Geoffrey Chalk, a founder member of the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) and a previous owner of Gavin Jones Ltd who the Nurture Group acquired in 2018. It strives to develop an effective enrichment programme for the landscaping sector, designed to provide students with the necessary skills, knowledge and certification to prosper in the industry. With under-35s accounting for approximately 80% of jobs lost in the past year due to Covid-19, the Fund offers an opportunity for this group and others to become highly employable and fully prepared for the world of work. As a Chalk Fund Champion and BALI member, the Nurture Group makes an annual contribution to the Fund to support its initiatives and provides students with opportunities to gain hands-on experience at sites across the UK. These include Capel Manor College, the UK’s sole specialist environmental college, who Nurture also run apprenticeship programmes with, and Bridgwater and Taunton College, Somerset, with the idea to bring other establishments on in the near future. Paul Bean, Nurture sales director, said: “We have been a longstanding supporter of the work BALI does in bringing in new landscaping talent. As such, we are delighted to be showing our support for the Chalk Fund, which has an outstanding track record in making its students ready for a career in professional landscaping. We have been proud to take on apprentices and interns through the years, many of whom are now enjoying progressing careers, and it is something I take great satisfaction in witnessing.” Through the range of initiatives funded by the BALI Chalk Fund, such as the GoLandscape Enrichment programme, and its Top Student awards, learners are motivated to perform at their best to gain the reward of achieving industry recognised accreditations.
