Three Nurture Group colleagues joined around 160 participants from businesses across the region for an Army Leadership Day at Longmoor Training Camp in Hampshire.

Sheridan Cope, Nelson Milburn, and Martin Pugh took part in the event, tackling a series of physical and mental challenges inspired by the training undertaken by the British Army.

The day gave participants the opportunity to develop their teamwork, communication and leadership skills while gaining a greater understanding of the Army’s work and the range of roles within the Armed Forces.

Working in teams, participants took on eight activities throughout the day, including building shelters, learning about foraging and completing a blindfolded team exercise.

They also explored the practical skills involved in preparing equipment for transport by helicopter and took part in paintball target practice.

The varied activities highlighted the importance of working together, adapting to new situations and finding solutions under pressure.

Martin Pugh, Nurture’s SHEQ Manager, said:

“We were split into eight teams with eight activities, four in the morning and four in the afternoon, with an army ration pack lunch – not bad!

Everyone gained a lot of insight into what the Army does, from PT to cyber warfare. It was a brilliant day and I would recommend it to anyone!”

As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, Nurture Group supports initiatives that build understanding of the Armed Forces and recognise the valuable skills and experience of service personnel.

Leadership Days at Longmoor are held throughout the year, giving Covenant signatories the opportunity to take part in activities that encourage collaboration, build confidence and develop transferable skills.

The experience was a valuable opportunity for Sheridan, Nelson and Martin to step outside their usual working environment, learn something new and put their teamwork skills to the test.

Thank you to the British Army for hosting the day.
