Wildlife Trust Biodiversity Benchmark awarded to Nurture client, Chineham Park
13 March 2024

We’re pleased to congratulate our Chineham Park client on its recent biodiversity benchmark status from the Wildlife Trust. The benchmark is the only standard that certifies the management of a business landholdings for wildlife.
Chineham Park in Basingstoke is one of only three business parks in the UK to be granted Biodiversity Benchmark status, and it is a great achievement after three years working in collaboration with us here at Nurture Group.
Using Nurture's Biodiversity Action Plans to promote wildlife
In 2020 a Biodiversity Action Plan was put in place at the park to identify areas for improvement, for example providing missing habitats, allowing grass areas to grow longer and by looking at plant stock and bare areas.
Nurture Group has worked tirelessly to support the Chineham team in all aspects of its biodiversity and sustainability policy, planting over 3,000 new bulbs and native trees, in particular fruit trees, and worked with an ecologist to balance continued maintenance and conduct impact assessments.
The team holds quarterly biodiversity meetings to check in on what has been done and the continued maintenance, including conducting nature walks to showcase to site users the success of the initiatives.
Occupiers of the park are engaged in the projects and biodiversity initiatives with regular workshops being hosted by Nurture Landscapes. Nature walks are carried out twice a year on the park, where those attending are shown all the initiatives that have been put in place to increase biodiversity and sustainability
Nurture's recent surveys have shown that all nest boxes we have installed are being used. The reptile mats across the site are showing a very healthy population. The Big Butterfly Count is a UK-wide survey aimed at helping us assess the health of our environment, we recently carried this out on site, results will contribute to conservation science and research. The team has reported that all nest boxes are being used, and more than 70 orchids counted, including a rare species that has been identified in the meadow areas.
